Start with what the test actually asks you to do
ASE builds every certification test from a published task list: the specific jobs a technician is expected to be able to perform. Most candidates never read it, then wonder why the questions felt unfamiliar. These pages set out every task on every B-Series test as ASE publishes it, along with how many questions each content area is worth so you know where your study time pays off.
How to use a task list to study
A task list is a study plan that somebody else already wrote for you.
Follow the weighting
Each content area carries a fixed number of questions. An area worth 27% of the test deserves roughly a quarter of your study time, no matter how comfortable the other areas feel.
Read each task as a question
If a task says you should be able to identify corrosion and judge how deep it goes, ask yourself whether you could actually do that on a car this afternoon. The honest answer tells you where to study.
Mind the tasks you never do
Most technicians lose points on the work their own shop does not send them. The tasks you rarely touch are the ones worth reading twice.
Then practise in the real format
Knowing the task is not the same as answering a Technician A / Technician B question about it under time pressure. Practise in the format the test actually uses.
